Firaxis Games continues to improve Civilization VII as fan sentiment continues to be lukewarm for their latest entry in the legendary turn-based strategy game franchise. The latest patch arrived in March 25, 2025, introducing update 1.1.1 in the game. Here’s everything you need to know.

The second half of the first post-launch DLC, Crossroads of the World, arrives alongside update 1.1.1, bringing Simón BolÃvar to the fray, alongside Bulgaria and Nepal as playable nations.
Gameplay Features
Majority of the implemented changes in Civilization Update 1.1.1 are thankfully applied for everyone. Here are the new features added to the game:
- Quick Move – skip all animations of units moving – they just teleport and appear to where you need them, saving time!
- Map Generation – map generation has been improved to add more variety and flavor. A brand-new default map option is Standard, where continents have a bit more variety and are less predictable. The previous default map option is now called Balanced, and can be selected again at any point in Advanced Options, and will remain to be the default map option for multiplayer games.
- Settlement and Commander Renaming – you can now rename all your settlements and commanders – just as how the original Civilization gods intended.
- Various UI Improvements – UI improvements include improved unit flags, health bar visibility, improved plot tooltips, a new “District Under Attack” notification, new trade lens and send merchant lens, and a UI change that lets you see how far away you are from your next Crisis.
- Restart Button – The game now has a restart button that you can use to reroll your map within the first fifty turns of the game.
- New World Wonder – Mt. Everest is now part of the game! Discovering Mt. Everest will make all of the other mountains on your continent visible to you.
A bunch of other balance and pacing changes have also been implemented on the game to offer a smoother and more enjoyable experience. For the full patch notes, check it out on the Civilization VII updates page.
Update 1.1.1 went live on PS4 and PS5 on March 27, and on the Nintendo Switch on April 3.
