Four of the world’s greatest superheroes will be joining the Marvel Rivals roster very soon, as Netease just teased an artwork showing the Fantastic Four with the caption “Get ready to welcome Marvel’s First Family in Marvel Rivals.”
Netease will also be releasing a trailer showcasing the four members of the superteam on Monday, January 6, 2024, at 12:00 AM PHT / 8:00 AM PST / 16:00 UTC. We’ll most likely find out about the release date of the new characters in that trailer.
Marvel Rivals is currently experiencing a strong debut month with over 400,000+ peak players on Steam over the past 28 days. The game’s cross-play allows friends from across platforms to party up and play together in parties of 6, although the game currently doesn’t supper cross-console progression, which Netease plans to implement in the future.
Marvel Rivals’ success is driven by the enjoyment players are currently having with the game. Many players are big fans of the game’s monetization model, with all characters available for free (including all future release characters, which includes The Fantastic Four.) Marvel Rivals also features paid cosmetics along with a Battle Pass from which players can unlock free cosmetics. Players can purchase Battle Passes to remove their expiration date and open access to more unlockable cosmetics.
Because of the fall of Overwatch 2 and the failed release of Concord, Marvel Rivals enters the fray at just the right moment, giving players a much more enjoyable gameplay experience in the hero shooter genre with a beloved IP that everyone could relate to. It’s the perfect recipe for success, really, and 2025 looks like it’s going to be Marvel Rivals’ year.
